Many Craniacs will recognize OM volunteer Colleen Chase in the photo below. Colleen joined the migration team last fall as a Crane Handler and CraneCam Gal Friday. To ease her suffering from Whooping crane withdrawal symptoms she volunteered to visit the St. Mark’s NWR pensite last Sunday morning to provide our Cam Viewers with a virtual tour.
In the photo below, Colleen is in the Observation Blind getting the equipment ready for the video tour.
The live video tour will be repeated this coming Sunday, January 20th at approximately 8:00 am eastern. To join us on Sunday visit this link. In the meantime, click below to see the video of last weekend’s tour. Drag the slider below the streaming video to the 10:30 point to see the cranes make their grand entrance.

While watching the SECOND tour with Colleen and the Class of 2012, couldn’t help noticing that one of the cranes was showing the defensive stance where he stretched his neck up, tilted his head and stomped his feet in the pond. Did anybody else notice that? Would like verification of that so I wasn’t just imagining things. Thanks for the second tour, too. Do so appreciate being able to see our birdies and how they are doing at regular intervals.
Very observant Margie! They are indeed reaching that magical age where, like human teens, they become more defiant and challenge their parent.
I just saw the group fly ahead in Dover! It is always a beautiful
Site to see!! Thank you for all of your efforts!
Great to have some fun with our cranes. They look so big and healthy. Thank you so much. The tume is looking nice, too. :- ) & of course our Colleen , lovely as ever!! Love when the cranes look face on directly into the camera. Those goo goo googely eyes.
How fun it is to be able to see “our” class of 2012,that they are safe and happy, and wow, growing!! Thanks Colleen..see you hopefully at the festival if not before. Super duper helper you are…fun fun fun watching during our “off season” of having the whoopers up here in WI. It’s all cold cold cold here right now,so these pictures are neat, remembering the warmer weather.
Miss you, Colleen! “When will we meet again?….”
At 41 minutes, one of the burds (red, white, green, top to bottom bands) starts dancing. Pretty cool! Check it out! Can’t wait for next crane cam event! Thanks to all that are making that possible!
<3 Col!!!
As usual thanks. Can never see enough of our growing burdies!
love you, Colleen
