I am willing to assume that this shooting was “simply” a mistake, based on the shooter’s actions. However, this is one “shining” example as to why there should ~never~ be any sandhill hunting allowed in ~any~ state (or, at least in a large state like Texas, any region of a state) where whoopers are known to be. [Please note that I am opposed to sandhill hunting per se, as well, but this incident illustrates the danger to a very rare species that such hunting contributes to.]
