BREAKING NEWS, CRANE RETURNS – ENTRY 3

When my cell phone rang at o’dark thirty this morning I knew it had to be Brooke. It’s a standing joke that at if we want to talk to someone at that time of the morning we only have each other to call because everyone else has more sense than to be up and working at that hour.

The reason for Brooke’s call was to report that #4-12 had returned to the St. Marks NWR pen.

He said that when he and Bev went to the pen last night for the usual evening roost check, they discovered that #4 had re-joined his flock-mates. Brooke noted that #4 appeared ‘very tired’, and surmised that could possibly have been because he had come from a long way away. That would also explain why neither his radio signal, nor that of his AWOL girl pal #11-12 could be picked up despite the area being searched being considerably expanded.
