BREAKING NEWS: They’re Outa There!

Brooke reports that all eight young Whooping cranes left St. Marks yesterday morning!

They were in one group and had a tailwind. Today and Wednesday should be favorable migration days so we’ll keep you posted if we learn their whereabouts. God speed Class of 2013 – be safe.

Stay tuned…

Are these young Whoopers on their way back to the White River Marsh Wildlife Area???? Or do any of them go to the Necedah national wildlife refuge????

    • Heather Ray April 2, 2014 11:46 am

Katie, this cohort was raised and conditioned at White River Marsh SWA so they will likely return to this area.

Tears in my eyes, too! If we could do something to keep you and the other cranes safe while you migrate, I know we’d do it. Safe travels.

I always get a lump in my throat when this happens, as THIS is the proof of the imprinting that OM does when taking them on their first migration south via ultralight. The final proof is when they arrive. Stay safe sweet whoopers!

OM can be proud! We look forward to seeing them when they arrive North! How long does it take approximately?
