Class of 2015!

Yes, 2015… Patuxent Wildlife Research Center’s Sharon Peregoy reports they had their first chick hatch this past Sunday. Additionally, two more eggs had pipped and were expected to hatch Monday evening or by yesterday morning.

    thank you, Heather. Are there other eggs that may hatch yet (in addition to these 3)? Otherwise, class of 2015 would be only 3 chicks.

    So exciting! Is Patuxent the sole place where chicks are hatched, or are there other eggs (chicks) from other places that will become part of the class of 2015?

      There are five captive breeding centers in North America. However, Patuxent hatches the eggs/chicks that take part in the Parent Rearing program, as well as the aircraft-guided release method and the Louisiana non-migratory flock.
