Angry Bird!

Doug Pellerin captured this fantastic photo last week, which shows female whooping crane number 9-03 defending her nest against this Sandhill crane intruder.

Whooping cranes are very territorial during nesting season. Photo: Doug Pellerin

Picture should be published somewhere – shows the furious protective anger of a mom Whooper and what you are also all fighting for – protections of just one egg at a time. Especially with that possibility of the dangers of allowing hunting of other cranes.

The picture says it all…. Stay away!! It would be interesting to know if the Sandhill is a young bird who just doesn’t know any better than to bother a 14 year old Mom! Great picture, Doug. Thanks for sharing.
