Plastic Waste & Recycling

Any environmental caring person knows that plastic waste is not good for the environment and especially for our oceans. Reports are showing increasing large numbers of birds that have ingested plastic waste.

Many of us feel comfortable with ourselves, knowing that we recycle our plastic waste but are we really doing as much good as we think we are?

No our area use to pick up recycling once a week now it’s ones a month . Reusing or recycling was a way of life for many of us older folks no waste but the 40’s & under just pitch everything. Sorry but I see daily . I’ve tried to even teach them to put out gardens store or dehydrate veggies or can some . & yet they love eating this way ,but don’t like to put in the time to learn. Sad sad & really it really isn’t that difficult. Nowadays it’s going to be cell phone stuff breaking down every day. Tossed

I see the same thing, Linda, with the under 40 group. People walking along and when done with their plastic containers, simply drop them. We live in a throw-away society, yes, but parents don’t teach their kids to recycle .. and with the example the parents set, it’s not going to happen.

Kudos to Starbucks for *trying* to help by setting up trash cans at the door for ‘recycle’ and ‘trash.’ A little analysis of behavior-watching showed very few can read (and did separate their containers) or just don’t care. I think it’s the 2nd category.

China used to take probably the larger part of our #5 PP plastics, but they’re apparently going to stop doing it. Now what?

I’ll keep recycling .. as I know you will. But I wish i had answers.
