Migration 2004

Fall Ultralight-Guided Whooping Crane Migration
Wisconsin to Florida

Date: November 15, 2004 |  Day 37

Washington County, KENTUCKY

Vicki, Walt and Robert make their usual walk out to the crane enclosure so they are ready to release them on Joe's cue.
The birds seemed eager to cooperate his morning and began pursuing their aircraft surrogate.
As Joe veers left or west most of the birds follow his lead and cut the corner so they can form up quicker behind the large delta shaped wing of the aircraft.
Fourteen cranes fall into place behind Joe's aircraft just after take-off - they arrived in Washington Co., KY in the same formation, 1 hour and 20 minutes later.
