"While You Were Out"
Renovating the Chassahowitzka NWR Winter Pen Site

Charlie Shafer (Patuxent), Joyce Kleen (Chassahowitzka NWR), Gerald Murphy and Jerry Ulrikson (OM volunteers) work their way through the muck to make sure the perimeter fence is secure.
The pen is 8-ft. tall, and constructed of heavy plastic fencing. The lower green section is strong enough to deter any wild pigs from burrowing inside. In the distance you can see the observation blind used by the winter monitoring staff.
Lara Fondow, Sara Zimorski (ICF) and Mark Nipper (OM) carefully inspect the large open topped section to ensure it is still secure after the hurricanes that pummeled the area last summer.
Pilot/handyman Brooke Pennypacker hauls in another roll of fencing...
Heather proves is not easy to navigate through mud that sucks your boots deeper with each step.
