| The adult male #105 visits the winter pen site with his mate #204.
He is very territorial and quite aggressive toward the juvenile
cranes, and the handlers. |
 |
| #401 - A juvenile male crane struts through the mud at low tide
using his extended wings for balance. |
 |
| left: male #401 and right: male #408 forage for exposed treats in
the mud during low tide. |
 |
| #408 takes advantage of the fresh water bubbler. The salinity
level of the marsh water must remain lower than 21 parts per
thousand to be considered suitable for consumption so fresh water is
provided as an alternate drinking source. |
 |
| It would appear that #408 was hamming it up for Mark's camera on
this day as here he is again showing off his now almost completely
white wings. |
 |
| #416 - young male enters the roofed feeding station... |
 |
|
...while these two apparently prefer the extra feed station, which was
set up so that any adults that may be present aren't allowed to
monopolize the feed.
