| At 7:44 A.M. Brooke Pennypacker launched with all 15 Whooping cranes amid a sea of ducks, geese, swans, and Sandhill cranes. |

| Richard moved in to pick up the remaining 5 reluctant-to-leave cranes and departed south. Soon after he appeared back on the scene after they again turned back. He left, and returned, then left and then returned, until finally leaving for good with only 1 young whooper in tow. |

| Meet the diehard craniacs! These folks turned up (almost) each and every day since last Wednesday, Oct. 8th; our target departure date. Yesterday morning I snapped this photo when we arrived at the refuge headquarters to discover them flapping their wings, and holding up a photo of the ultralights in the air for luck... We'll see you next year! |
