Day 42 - Nov. 26, 2003

Meigs County, TN - Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge

A spectacular sunrise over the area.

And soon after sunrise the Sandhill cranes began dropping in.

Many, many Sandhills dropped in...

AND, among them a taller, glowing white Whooping crane!

The leg band combination of green over white (left) and red over white (right) indicates crane #107 from the first aircraft-led migration south in 2001. A female, again on her way south after spending a  second summer at the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge in southeast Wisconsin.
