At 7:51 a.m. Joe Duff launched from our Gordon County, Georgia stopover. Richard van Heuvelen brings up the chase position, ready to pick up any birds that exit the pen late like the crane still behind the trees, and below Richards trike.

As soon as they cleared the tree tops the morning sun illuminated the young cranes, as they formed up behind the lead aircraft.

Crane #303 on the right shows off her impressive 7 ft. wingspan. The leg band of her flight partner is in shadow so we can't be certain which flyer this is...
|
After a record flight time of 3 hours and 4 minutes the still costumed pilots led the cranes to a remote area of the isolated field to await the arrival of Dan Sprague and Jane Chandler, who were about 90 minutes behind, towing the portable crane pen. You can just make out the white figures of the cranes and pilots hiding behind this tree line.

Once the pen arrived, Richard, Heather, Jane and Dan set it up; in silence so as not to disturb or pique their curiosity. Once it was assembled Richard and Heather retreat and allow Joe, Brooke, Dan and Jane to lead the cranes into the enclosure where fresh water and crane chow is waiting.
