Day Twelve - Oct. 27, 2003

Kankakee Co., IL to Benton Co., IN

Upon lift-off two birds, including #303 dropped back a bit (left of image). Brooke moved in to lend them his aircraft wing.
Richard departs our Kankakee stopover with fourteen juvenile Whooping cranes lined up off his right wingtip....

1 hour & 8 minutes later, Richard arrives in Benton Co., Indiana with fourteen juvenile Whooping cranes STILL lined up off his right wing-tip.
Brooke Pennypacker led two cranes this morning, making up the full compliment of sixteen. Crane #303 and another, which had a blue leg band kept Brooke company for today's 43.2 mile leg of the southward journey.

Richard van Heuvelen leads with fourteen; followed by Brooke with two... I felt sorry for Joe not having anything to do during yesterday's flight so I decided to give him the camera this morning....
