2002 Migration South: Wisconsin to Florida

Photos taken Oct. 27, 2002. Flight from Ogle Co., Illinois to La Salle Co., Illinois
at 6:45 am, Richard left the remote grass strip followed by a long line of stark white cranes, who this morning appeared very eager to fly as they fell into a waving line off his left wing. As he led them out of the field they appeared as a long banner, slowly displaying a message that required no text.

Red/Green/White leg bands on right leg identify this bird as crane #5

Sometimes the pilots will get airborne just to test the conditions aloft before making a final "go or no go call."
