Operation Migration conducts more Sandhill and Trumpeter studies

In the spring, six cranes from the Ontario-to-Virginia migration return to Ontario, proving that they will initiate their own return migration without the influence of wild Sandhill cranes.

OM conducts a third Sandhill-crane study in order to further refine the costume-rearing protocol, to minimize human contact, and to maintain wildness in birds conditioned to follow ultralight aircraft.

OM assists Dr. Sladen and Environmental Studies at Airlie by leading Trumpeter swans from upstate New York to the Chesapeake Bay area.
